Amsterdam: canals, city landmarks and coffee

The Rijksmuseum, Rembrandt Square, canals and a coffee stop in Amsterdam in 2015.

A broad canal leads towards a brick bridge between tree-lined banks and narrow buildings in Amsterdam.

Amsterdam’s canal banks were green with trees, with narrow buildings, moored boats and bicycles along the water. A low brick bridge connected the two sides.

Amsterdam’s canals

Bicycles lined the railings, boats lay against the banks and tall façades stood behind the trees. The canal passed beneath a brick bridge with three low arches.

The Rijksmuseum

Red brick, pale stone and elaborate rooflines marked the Rijksmuseum’s exterior. Its central entrance stood between two towers, beyond a broad paved approach.

Rembrandt Square

In Rembrandt Square, a tall statue stood above a group of dark bronze figures at ground level. Trees and surrounding buildings enclosed the public square.

Dam Good Coffee

“Dam Good Coffee is Damn Good.” That was my verdict on this coffee stop.

The shop had a red sign above its narrow frontage, bicycles parked outside and tram tracks running past.
