Taipei, good company and a generous table

Taipei 101, colourful flower displays and a trip with plenty of room for seafood.

I met Chia Wei Lin in Taipei, and my caption enthusiastically called him “Taiwan’s Best Product Manager.” Another entry joked about what all the eating had done to my waistline. Food and company had a substantial place in this trip.

There was room outside the restaurants for Taipei 101 and bright flower displays too.

Taipei 101

Taipei 101 rises above its shopping entrance in stacked tiers that narrow against the sky. From the steps near its base, the tower stretches far above the signs and shopfronts at street level.

Taipei meals

Two seafood platters brought together sliced fish, orange roe, prawns and yellow egg, with small mounds of green garnish. Another plate held three pieces of seaweed-wrapped sushi generously topped with sea urchin.

Between those platters, the sushi and the food shared at the gathering, my waistline joke had plenty of material.

Flower displays in Taipei

Large pink chrysanthemums stood above layers of smaller yellow, red and purple flowers. Lanterns and garden signs rose between the beds. Elsewhere in the display, brightly patterned balloon decorations continued the colour overhead.
