Hong Kong and Macau: theme parks and city lights

Disneyland, the Venetian, Ocean Park and Madame Tussauds, with a meal together and Hong Kong after dark.

This Hong Kong trip begins above the clouds and takes in Disneyland, Ocean Park and Madame Tussauds. There is also a Macau chapter: the Venetian appears between the Hong Kong theme parks in the original numbered albums.

The places range from an indoor square under a painted sky to an aquarium and a skyline after dark. A table set with small dishes belongs in the account too, alongside the better-known attractions.

Arriving above the clouds

An aircraft wing stretches over scattered clouds and blue water. The curve of the passenger window encloses the view. It is the opening to the album called “Settling Down,” before the journey moves to the streets and attractions below.

Disneyland

Disneyland has a whole album of its own. The visit included a parade with Mickey Mouse and Goofy in blue-and-white costumes beneath a large gold snowflake. The seasonal decorations give this stop a Christmas setting; the rocky waterfall elsewhere in the album adds another of the park’s constructed landscapes.

The Venetian, Macau

My original caption supplies a useful geographical correction: “This should be labelled as Macau Trip hehe.” The Venetian belongs to the Macau part of the journey, even though the album sits inside the Hong Kong sequence.

Inside, an ornate square brings together clock faces, rows of windows and illuminated shopfronts beneath a blue sky ceiling. Another view looks up at an oval ceiling painting surrounded by gold decoration and lights. The architecture continues from the façades overhead.

Ocean Park

Ocean Park brings the story back to the water. At Ocean Theatre, a dolphin appears in a bright blue pool. The aquarium provides a closer underwater view: large fish cross a blue-green tank at different depths, with rocks and smaller fish behind them.

The two settings share the same album, along with Christmas lights after dark. The aquarium scene is the quieter-looking part of that collection, full of overlapping fish rather than a single isolated subject.

Madame Tussauds

Madame Tussauds is the last attraction named in the numbered albums, following Ocean Park. It adds a wax-museum stop to a journey that already includes two theme parks and the Venetian in Macau.

Hong Kong after dark

The same album also holds a view of Hong Kong’s towers at night. White diagonals outline a tall building above the surrounding blocks, and smaller windows glow through the haze. The city stretches beyond the individual attractions into a dense field of illuminated buildings.

At the table

The meal in the “Settling Down” album brings the trip to a smaller scale: blue-and-white crockery, tea cups, chopsticks, roast meat and small dishes of dark sauce. Hands reach in over the plates. The source does not name the restaurant or its area, so this meal stands on its own here.
